More than buildings
First
Baptist Church; Built 1874
Present Church
Cornerstone Laid, October 16, 1927
Dedicated, May 13, 1928
First Baptist Church is more than
buildings; it is people living a covenant relationship with
the Lord determined to exalt Christ and evangelize others both
at home and abroad. Out of our membership, Warren and Evelyn Harris are serving as home missionaries, presently in Brookville, Pennsylvania. David and Cherri Cooper actively planted churches in the New England area;
in 2002 they became fully supported by
Silver City Baptist Church in Taunton, Massachusetts. We also helped support
Helen Matchett the widow of Timothy who ministered in
Togo,
West Africa; Mrs. Matchett resigned from the mission in Dec. 2005. We support
Walid Bitar ministering
to the Arab people in Ottawa, ON, Canada. Over 30% of our budget is given to
missionaries and missionary projects such as:
New Life Island, the Rob Finch's.
We are the sending church for 2 families to Alaska; our former pastor: David Craig
family
who are in Fort Yukon, and George Pine III
family who are training, raising support in preparation for aviation ministry in
Alaska.
Until October 30, 2003, Gus Hauser, at age 95, was our oldest living member. Olive Dougherty has been member the longest of any now active. Olive was baptized April 4, 1926.
On our 125th Anniversary we remembered our heritage, examined our present condition, and determined to go forward, always sharing the saving grace of Jesus and His love. Only God knows how far the rays from this corner lighthouse have penetrated and the lives it has affected. Let us always be faithful to our faithful Lord and continue sending out His message.
