1999 - 2001
Pastor Tom Horbelt, who previously pastored numerous churches in south Jersey, including
the former First Baptist Church of Atlantic City, (now
First Baptist
Church of Pleasantville, NJ ) and the Weekstown Community
Church, Egg harbor, NJ; was selected by the
nominating committee to fill the pulpit until a replacement
could be secured. He served from August 1999 through Jan 2,
2000. Pastor and Mrs. Horbelt continue to visit most Sunday
evenings, since, WCC does not meet on Sunday evening.
On Sunday, December 12, 1999 the congregation voted to call W. David Craig as pastor, Pastor Craig & his family moved into the parsonage on December 18, 1999. A formal installation service was held on February 27, 2000.
Pastor Craig's childhood Pastor, Garry Moore, delivered the "pastoral charge;" after which, Pastor Tom Horbelt
delivered the "congregational charge."
Pastor Craig introduced a community
visitation program on Thursday evenings, and a new converts
Bible study on Monday evenings. On July 29, 2000, Pastor Craig
was examined for over 4 hours by the Ordination Council,
consisting of Pastor Roy Ferguson,
Pastor Warren Harris,
Pastor Tom Horbelt
Pastor Dean Bult, Sr., Rev. Dean Bult, Jr., Chairman of Deacons, Bro. Steve Preston; Deacons Rev. Albert Gaunt, Bro. William Preston, Bro. Arnold Willis, Bro. Benjamin Black, and Bro. Dave Wells. The ordination council voted unanimously to recommend the church ordain Pastor Craig; in addition, a unanimous commendation was made for Pastor Craig's
thoroughness of preparation for the examination. On July 30, 2000, the church voted unanimously to ordain Pastor Craig.
Pastor Warren Harris delivered the congregational charge followed by Pastor Roy Ferguson delivering the charge to the Candidate. |
